From Doubt to Trust: My Journey to Stronger Intuition

(A Guide to Developing Unshakeable Self-Trust)

We all have that inner voice. The one that whispers warnings, excitement, or hesitation. But for years, I ignored mine. I pushed through exhaustion, dismissed my gut feelings, and followed what I thought I "should" do instead of what felt right.

That is, until everything fell apart.

I hit a wall where my usual strategies of pushing through and ignoring my body's signals stopped working. My anxiety was through the roof, my decisions felt scattered, and I had lost trust in myself. That's when I realized: I needed to rebuild my relationship with my intuition from the ground up.

Here's how I did it, and how you can too.

Learning the Language of My Body

The first breakthrough came when I stopped fighting my body's signals and started seeing them as valuable data. That knot in my stomach before important meetings? It wasn't just nervousness to push through – it was information. That sudden exhaustion when thinking about a project? Not laziness, but a signal that something wasn't aligned.

I began keeping a simple journal of physical sensations and what they often preceded. Patterns emerged: A spike in anxiety usually meant something was a clear "no" for me. A feeling of lightness and excitement? That was my body's way of saying "yes!"

Finding Tools for Clarity

As someone who had spent years in their head, I needed concrete tools to help me tune in. I started pulling daily oracle cards – not because I believed they could predict the future, but because they gave me a focal point for reflection. The cards became a mirror, helping me access thoughts and feelings I had been pushing aside.

Morning pages became my daily ritual. Just three pages of stream-of-consciousness writing each morning. No editing, no censoring. It was messy and often mundane, but it helped clear the mental static that was drowning out my intuition.

Nature became my reset button. When decisions felt muddy or my mind was spinning, a walk in the woods would clear the mental chatter. Something about the rhythm of walking and the absence of screens helped my inner voice emerge more clearly.

The Power of Pace

One of my biggest revelations was that intuition needs space to emerge. You can't hear a whisper in a room full of shouting, and you can't hear your inner wisdom when you're running from meeting to meeting without a breath in between.

I started building in intentional spaces between activities where I could process and reset. This meant:

  • Adding 15-minute buffers between calls

  • Time-blocking my calendar to protect my energy

  • Creating dedicated days for different types of work (creative, client-facing, administrative)

  • Using simple breathing techniques (like box breathing) when I needed to quickly center myself

Taking Action (Even When Scared)

The final piece was learning to act on the wisdom I received. This was perhaps the hardest part – trusting enough to take action even when my logical mind wanted more data or my fear wanted more certainty.

I started small. When I got a clear intuitive hit about something minor (like taking a different route to work or reaching out to a specific person), I would act on it immediately. Each time I did, I documented what happened. Over time, I built a track record of evidence that my intuition was trustworthy.

The Results

This journey has transformed not just my decision-making, but my entire relationship with myself. Decisions that used to paralyze me for weeks now often feel clear within days or even hours. My anxiety has decreased dramatically because I'm no longer fighting my inner wisdom – I'm working with it.

Most importantly, I've developed what I call "unshakeable self-trust." Not because I never make mistakes (I do), but because I trust my ability to listen to my intuition, take aligned action, and course-correct as needed.

Your Turn

If you're feeling called to strengthen your own intuition, start small:

  • Pay attention to your body's signals without trying to change them

  • Create small pockets of silence in your day

  • Experiment with tools that help you access your inner wisdom

  • Take action on your intuitive hits, starting with low-stakes decisions

  • Document your journey and celebrate the wins, no matter how small

Remember: Your intuition is like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Trust the process, and trust yourself.
