💭 How to Make Thoughtful Choices 💭 for the Life You Want to Live
The year is coming to a close. And as the days grow shorter here in London, I find myself diving deeper into thought about the past year, what’s happened in my business and life, and what I want to see next year look like.
Listen, there’s a lot that’s out of my control – things that I have no ability to change, and world circumstances that break my heart – and yet, there’s so much that I have the great fortune to choose. I can choose how I feel every day, I can choose what to feel grateful for and what to be angry about. I can choose to experience life fully, or to check out of my mind and body and drift or daydream somewhere else. I can choose the people I want to surround myself with, and the thoughts, ideas, books, or media that I want to take up my time and attention.
In a world that can so often feel overwhelming, I make the choice to put my energy, thoughts, and feelings into what will ultimately bring me closer to my concept of happiness and contentment.
Lately, I’ve been having the feeling that I’d like to be surrounded by more friends and to travel more. These are two qualities within my life that have always been present – almost more than anything else – and I’ve noticed a distinct lack over the last year or two since I got married and moved to London.
That’s not saying I’ve been unhappy – because I haven’t – but I do recognize the shift in how my time is spent and with whom.
And, at the same time, I’ve felt an unparalleled sense of calm satisfaction and achievement in my work – supporting incredible humans to recognize their own potential and take courageous steps to build a life they love, launching Don’t Step on the Bluebells and having deep and powerful conversations with people I greatly respect and admire, and enjoying the love, support, and companionship of my husband, my cat, and the people I’ve met since relocating.
I can see the threads that pulled together to create this reality, the dreams and desires I held close as I narrowed in on FOCUS (my word for 2023) and the balance of what I’ve always loved in the past and what matters most to me today. Had I still be traveling the world as I did just 3 or 4 years ago I wouldn’t have had the energy and thoughtful focus leftover to pour so much creativity into my work. Had I spent more time enjoying nights out eating with friends or dancing through the night (Berghain, anyone?) I might not have had the restful nights and quiet calm early mornings to sort through my musings and come up with new ideas to bring out into the world.
So, as I sit in reflection this time of year, I can fully honor and recognize what I love about my life, what is no longer top priority for me, and what truly helps me work towards the goals I so deeply desire – including the sacrifices I make with intention to work towards the future I want.
Later this week I will be releasing the Year End Reflection Guide – my annual guide to help you dive deep into your own reflective practice, honoring and acknowledging your 2023 and helping you set your sights on a more aligned, more meaningful, and more purposeful 2024.
When you make space for self-reflection, you open yourself up to new possibilities and a renewed vision grounded in what matters most. I so look forward to walking this reflective path together and wish you wisdom, insight and joy as you consider how you'd like to close out 2023.
Lots of love,
Amanda
