There is no such thing as a Life Purpose
There is no such thing as a Life Purpose
Spoiler Alert: There is no such thing as a Life Purpose 🚨
When I first started my coaching business, I was determined to focus on helping people find their purpose. Now, six years later, I find myself once again on the precipice of helping people discover purpose, but with a new perspective. 🌅
I've come to understand that purpose isn't necessarily a singular, lifelong pursuit, but rather something that can be found and created through purposeful action. It's about finding the drive and desire to create, build, and engage in meaningful pursuits that align with your values and passions. 🎨🔧
Even though my own purpose has shifted over the years, I know so many of us struggle to find our true place of belonging in the world and yearn for a so-called life purpose that is truly the answer to it all. We long to have clarity, to wipe out confusion, and to have something we can sink our teeth into and run with. We want certainty. 🌍💭
Believe it or not, many clients who come to me just want me to answer the question, "What should I be doing with my life?" 🤔 As much as I'd love to be able to help, I cannot answer that question for them. No one can.
But if I've learned anything from my 6 years of entrepreneurship and coaching leaders, entrepreneurs, and creative spirits from all walks of life, it's that the only way to find out what you are meant to be doing and who you are becoming is to just start doing.
The fastest way to build confidence in yourself, in your ability to follow through on what you say you will, and to really know yourself, is to do things. Have experiences. Make mistakes. Succeed. Fail. It is all one and the same. But get off your phone, or off your laptop and go create and do things in the world! 🌍 All the things you are afraid of, all the things you find easy; go to the conference, have dinner with the person you hardly know, pitch yourself to speak on that stage, or publish the article you wrote. Do the thing, whatever it is. 💪
Seth Godin talks about creating a Practice. A practice to commit to do what you say you want to do, and to show up for it every day. Don't worry about the outcome. Don't worry if you're good at it. Don't worry what other people think. Just do it. Every day. 📅
So, if you find yourself struggling to find your singular life purpose, remember that, first of all, there is no such thing, and second of all, purpose can be found and created through the actions you take every day. Trust the actions you are inspired to take, stay committed to your practice, and know that clarity will come as you continue to engage in purposeful pursuits. 🌟
Only then will you move from uncertainty and confusion to truly knowing. 🧠💡
