When I Look Back, it Surprises Me What Goals Used to Feel Impossible
When I look back at the goals I set over the years, I am often surprised to see what felt impossible back then, but now feels so easy.
It's not so much that I've gotten smarter over the years, (though I'd like to believe I have!) as it is that I learned how to get really clear on what it is I want to achieve in my life, which makes it easier to see clear progress towards it. It hasn't always been easy to state out loud what I want. In fact, for most of us it is nearly impossible to do.
Our vision is so clouded by the world around us, the people we see killing it in our network or the pros we follow online. Add in the layer of what our families or communities expect from us, and you start to see how our desires can be clouded over by so many different fears, expectations, or judgements from others. And it can be really easy to want to measure ourselves against those we see out in the world and forget about what it is that matters most to us.
That's why it's so important to take stock of where we are and where we want to be - to reflect on what we've achieved, what didn't work out how we hoped it would, and what we'd like to change in our career or life. Most people wait until year end or the start of the new school year to do this kind of reflection, but I like to do this practice monthly, aligning it to the new moon.
The new moon is a powerful time for setting new intentions - just like the full moon is a time for letting go of what no longer serves us. We can feel the strength of the goals, dreams, or wishes we have and watch what once seemed impossible unfold in the weeks (or months) ahead.
I have been following this practice of intention setting at the new moon for the last 8 years. When I look back over the months and years that have gone by, I am always amazed at how much I have achieved. Not only that, I'm sometimes also shocked at how something that feels so natural for me today was once on my list of "hard to reach dreams".
If you are ready to get clear on what it is you want to create in your life and start seeing progress towards that vision, join us tomorrow evening for the New Moon Community Call. This is a safe and intimate space to purposefully reflect on the month that's passed and to look ahead to the month (or months) to come. You'll be joined by other powerful humans who are showing up for themselves - and guided through some deep reflective exercises by yours truly.
I hope to see you there!
